Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis Brings Hope to the City with Festive Lights Test Drive

On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, Executive Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis took a spirited test drive of Cape Town's Adderley Street festive lights, preparing for the City of Cape Town’s annual Festive Lights Switch-On. Braving strong winds that are a well-known feature of Cape Town weather, the Mayor was joined by some of the incredible artists who will perform at the main event on Sunday, 1 December 2024. This test drive, set against the challenge of the gusty evening, perfectly reflects this year’s theme: "People of Hope."

As the lights were switched on for the test run, Adderley Street lit up with bright, colorful lights, illuminating the city center with a beautiful array of festive displays. Despite the challenging winds, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation. The artists in attendance reflected the energy and diversity of Cape Town, embodying the essence of the "People of Hope" theme; a theme chosen to inspire unity, resilience, and optimism among all Capetonians.

Each year, the Festive Lights Switch-On marks the start of the holiday season, a time when Cape Town comes together in celebration, music, and shared joy. The dedication to braving the windy weather for the test drive highlights the commitment to keeping the spirit of hope and togetherness alive in the Mother City, regardless of the challenges nature may bring.

This year’s lineup for 1 December is an exciting mix of top talent guaranteed to lift the spirits and get the city grooving. Leading the incredible lineup is Mafikizolo, one of South Africa’s most celebrated musical acts and the night’s headliner. Known for their captivating blend of Afro-pop and traditional rhythms, Mafikizolo will bring their signature energy and showmanship, making this year's event truly unforgettable.

In addition to Mafikizolo, the evening will feature the powerhouse vocals of 3 Tons of Fun, the humor of Alan Committie, and soulful performances from Blackbyrd, Carletheia, Cheree and Wynand Strydom, and DJ Caycee. Local favorites Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels will bring their reggae-inspired tunes, while rising stars Fagrie Isaacs & Candice Thornton, Lunga Tshuka, and Meneer Cee add fresh energy to the lineup. Mörda and the OG Dancers are set to wow the crowd, with a sprinkle of humor from Ouma Sarie and Waseef Piekaan. Rounding out the night, social media sensation TikTok SVNS will add a modern touch, ensuring something for everyone.
